Saint Joseph Cathedral 4th Grade Art Student Project (Right)

Introduction: Introduce students to different types of stained glass to include churches, religious artifacts, homes, magazines, etc. Talk about the different styles and review some of the history of stained glass before beginning with this exercise. Most of these projects are holiday related.

Procedure: Using white glue for lead and chalk pastel for glass or colored pencils, you can create wonderful stained glass designs.

What You Need:

What You Do:

  1. Create a stained glass design and "draw" it onto the construction paper using white glue. Experiment with different shapes and images. Refer to books, pictures etc. of stained glass.
  2. Let the glue dry (for about a day).
  3. When the glue is dry, color in between the glue lines using chalk pastel.
  4. You can "fix" the stained glass with hairspray or an artist's fixative to prevent the chalk from smudging off the paper.
